Prithviraj Defends Remake Trend in Malayalam Cinema

Posted on 00:27 by pollard

Young superstar Prithviraj on Tuesday defended the growing trend of ‘remakes’ in Malayalam cinema.

Talking to mediapersons here, the actor said he did not feel it was dearth of stories that was prompting film-makers to do remakes.

Prithviraj is himself starring in a remake of the 1989 Mohanlal hit Naduvazhikal and is also planning to redo his father Sukumaran’s critically acclaimed early 80s film ‘Vilkkanundu Swapnangal’.

“I am inspired by these films and want to redo them in a different way,” he said.

He added that he had always been fascinated by ‘Godfather’ penned by Mario Puzo and filmed by Francis Ford Coppola. “My father gave me the book and I have read it a dozen times,” he said.

“And who is not fascinated by that movie. Naduvazhikal is the Malayalam version of Godfather and that is why I wanted to remake it.”

Prithviraj added that his father’s performance in ‘Vilkanundu Swapnangal’ was one of his best and this prompted him to do that film again. “This is something deeply personal,” he said. “Perhaps you can even term it selfish.”

The young star said that his next film was Ranjith’s “Indian Rupee,’ a satirical look at how money changes the lives of youth.

Prithviraj & Rani Mukherjee on A 'Quirky' Love Story

Posted on 10:59 by pollard

Rani Mukherji is all set to shoot for her next film after the Reema Kagti directed Aamir Khan starrer. Rani has been very choosy after No One Killed Jessica.

Rani who had taken a break to read some good scripts, has picked up a script by director Sachin who has won a lot of acclaim for his films. The movie is being produced by Anurag Kashyap’s production banner and the film will see the entry of the talented actor from the south Prithviraj as the lead actor.

Rani was initially keen on getting the film produced by Yash Raj Films, but the nature of the film- it is a very quirky love story – make Aditya Chopra think about it for a while.

End result: Anurag Kashyap immediately jumped on the idea when he realized that YRF was taking its time and decided to produce the film.

Now, one has to see whether the film is really YRF’s loss or whether Anurag was a tad too hasty in deciding to make the film himself.

'Avalude Raavukal' - 2 with Prithviraj

Posted on 01:39 by pollard

As the remade version of old time hits like 'Neelathaamara' and 'Rathinirvedham' has managed to keep their producers and the viewers happy, more plans are out in similar lines in Mollywood. One film that is being considered for such a remake is I V Sasi's 'Avalude Raavukal' which came out in the late seventies.

One of the much debated movie of the time due to its controversial content ' Avalude Raavukal-2' will most probably feature a fresh face in the role that Seema has done in the original. I V Sasi himself will be calling the shots for this remake also, which will be produced by Liberty films. While the role done by late Sukumaran in the original will be handled by his son Prithviraj in the remake, I V Sasi is now busy fixing the actors for other characters of the movie, which will have almost all the sequences as its original.

Mollywood calling Piaa Bajpai

Posted on 01:31 by pollard

Although we first saw Piaa Bajpai in 2008 through 'Poi Solla Porom' her "Idhu Varai..." in 'Goa' where she played Jai's love interest is what that shot her to fame. But what seems to have made a lasting impression is her latest offering as Saro in KV Anand's 'Ko.'

Her chirpy character and positive attitude in 'Ko' had wowed one and all, and the actress took every bit of the role offered to her and utilized it to the fullest, and now she can rightly be referred to as one of the hottest properties in K'town.

The actress who is already one film old in Telugu, is now going to Mollywood to make a debut through 'Master' where she will be cast opposite top-notch hero Prithviraj, Johnny Antony will direct this family entertainer.

The film also marks the Malayalam debut of our 'Subramaniapuram' actor, Sasikumar who will play Prithviraj's classmate in this film. The friendship and lives of these two heroes, is said to form the crux of this film.
